Case Study: The Valley Hospital – Reimagining the Standard of Care
Challenge
Along with the significant obstacles that arose in healthcare in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, like nurse staffing shortages and waning patient safety, The Valley Hospital, NJ was struggling to decrease inpatient fall rates with current tools.
The Magnet-designated facility faced challenges with pressure-activated sensors, such as bed/chair alarms that caused false alarms and low staff adoption. Existing camera-based systems for patient observation resulted in logistical burden with long wait queues.
The facility needed a comprehensive solution driven by AI to accurately monitor patients, support staff, and improve patient outcomes.
Solution
The initial pilot implementation site included a 28-bed Neuroscience U-shaped unit with the highest acuity of all med-surge units. Installation was completed in one day with no disruption to patients. Onsite staff training and support were provided to ensure maximum adoption in the nursing workflow.
Following the pilot deployment and successful results, Inspiren expanded to additional Oncology, Med-Surg, Stepdown, and Orthopedic units.

Decrease in staff response time to alerts
- Reduction in Falls: Achieved a 45% reduction in patient falls and a 36% decrease in patient falls with injury that sustained across unit expansions.
- Improved Nurse Practicing: Response time decreased by 33% and staff sustained rounding compliance, even at the height of the Omicron surge in the winter of 2022. With the use of Live View in response to call bell activations, staff improved patient satisfaction and teamwork.
- Labor Savings: Efficiency was boosted by enabling remote patient check-ins, bed alarm checks, and room visual context to alerts for response triage.
- Quality and Risk Management: Clinical and quality teams drastically reduced time spent investigating events with AUGi Event Review. Instant access to data review allowed for eliminating unnecessary post-event testing, saving costs and reducing LOS.
“AUGi has the unique ability to keep patients safe in a way that never existed before.”
